Meant to say that the bird flew down from an adjacent tree to the road and that it "LAID" on the road and not "layed" - this is what I get from writing in a hurry.
For the record, I forgot to mention that I heard not a single peep from the bird in question and also flew straigh down from perching on a tree.
Hope I've corrected myself...
