The book I have says the Carolina parakeet and the passenger pigeon disappeared from Earth in 1914, but you can't always believe what you read. We still have people saying they've seen ivory-billed woodpeckers in Florida, Alabama, Louisiana, and even Cuba. Don't forget, too, that we used to have Caribbean monk seals lounging on the shorelines of the Florida Keys.
