Short Tailed hawks can and do hunt flying birds although for every flight kill I've seen I've seen several bird feeder ambushes.... I've also seen small rodents, snakes and a frog get grabbed by a Short tailed hawk... and once thought I saw a light phase short tailed hawk take a snake out of a tree -- on later inspection it was an Osprey! Now that I've only seen once! Perhaps it thought it was an eel?
Seriously, that was strange!
The Limpkin that lived in my back yard in Coconut grove eating Cuban ground snails for a couple of months in the neighborhood was another weird one.....
