Bills point about vagrants often being in an area for months is explained by
Patagonia rest area axion..Patagonia rest area north of nor gales, Arizona. Is a hot spot. It began so years ago when a pin icing couple found a rare bird there. Birders flocked to the sight. They found other rare birds. Did the rarities just occur after the first rarity, heck no. The birds were there all the time.
Lots of birding by good birder brings good birds.
