That's a real good point Bill! First thing that comes to mind is the Western Spindalis Larry Manfredi found on Virginia Key. He came across the bird in November 2012 but there's no saying how long it was there for. I went and saw it the day he found it and relocated it in January. If it hung out for three months who's to say it wasn't there three months prior.

Some places seem better than others though. Hugh Taylor Birch, Virginia Key and Key Biscayne have had their fair share of strays pop up but don't forget Long Pine Key in Everglades National Park - breeding spindalis, Cuban Pewee and Black-faced Grassquit were all found there... kinda throws a wrench in any theory for where to look. I guess the only proven way to find one is to get out and bird!
