I went hunting the Black-Chinned this afternoon. I arrived at 2pm, Steve Siegel, Larry Manfredi and another were there looking for the bird already.
No one had seen the bird. I stayed until 4:30 pm and was the last to leave. No black-chinned hummer.
When I first arrived, I saw a bird that had black and purple on the throat. I think it may have been the bird, but as I was describing the bird to Larry, he said that wasn't it. I don't know if we were looking at the same bird or not. What I saw sure looked like photos I have seen online.
There was one male Ruby-throated that was running off other hummers as soon as they arrived at the bush with the orange-red flowers. He was very aggressive with the other birds.
I plan to try again tomorrow, and plan to look in other bushes with flowers. Maybe the Black-chinned got tired of fighting with the ruby throat.
