: The Lesser Nighthawks that wintered last year in the Lucky Hammock area just north of the main entrance of Everglades National Park have returned. This evening at about 5:40 PM a few nighthawks appeared over the tree line to the southwest of the hammock and a few minutes later at least a dozen could be seen in flight, silhouetted against the afterglow. They began flying over the fields in front of the trees and at about 6:00 PM a few flew past the hammock close enough to be identified.
I had 17 Lesser Nighthawks about a week ago, I saw them around Lucky Hammock and in the field east of the road.
