A formerly very reliable spot for hooded merganser was the lakes next to the prison out west of the turnpike on nw 42nd (? tpk airport exit). Ducks generally on the far
side of the big lakes on the south side of the road. Scope helpful. I haven't been there in a number of years, but they were reported on this board a few times. Good luck
