Although I have had a male hummer show up occasionally at my nectar feeder I do no not have regular hummer activity in my yard yet. I have one large Firebush but it is not the native variety. The hummers love Firespike but it is just starting to bloom. Other flowers I have are of limited quantity. I have noted for quite a few years now, that regular hummer activity seems to coincide with weather cold enough to affect flowering--- ? maybe flower nectar production. once we get low temps in the 50's, I then start getting regular hummer activity. The hummers do feed at the flowers, but predominantly feed at the nectar feeder's, feeding every 15 to 20 minutes. If I had more flowering plants blooming earlier, then I most likely would have some regular hummimgbirds now.
