The description of your mystery birds sounds like they could be members of the Sturnidae family. Although the orange bill and stripe don't quite fit, everything else about the birds points towards Common Myna. The bill on this species is yellow which extends to the skin around the eye. They are dark brown with a black head, long-legged and hop around parking lots throughout South Florida. However they are more the size of a Haden Mango. See page 358-359 in the Third Edition of the National Geographic; Field Guide to the Birds. The family is also well represented in Sibley.Life is good............when migration ends, there's always the exotics to spice up the "Dog Days of Summer."
