The same thing happened at my house about 2 years ago. the house next door was empty for about 3 years. New people moved in and stripped the entire fence line. But I found as long as my feeders were full they would still come because they are used to coming to my yard. They are not as shy as you might think. I have 3 feeders in my back yard and they are filled with wild finch seed and they are there every morning like clock work until about 11am and then back again in the late afternoon. I placed they where it is kind of shady close to my flower beds, about 5ft from the back corner of my house and they love it there. Always a bussle of activity and so much fun to watch from inside the house.
