Although there were birds actively feeding until sunset yesterday, I noticed just as I was walking back to the car that the clouds were moving north to south. I thought the birds would just roost for the night and most woould still be here this morning. Not! I had a few birds in the hammock at Matheson, with a Swainson's in the same spot as yesterday, a few ovenbirds, and a couple of waterthrush, but everything else was gone. I just looked at the satellite loop and there is a counter-clockwise system just to our SE and this caused winds to come out of the north last night. The birds took advantage of this tailwind and took off south. Oh well, it's still early so hopefully we'll see even better days this fall.
