There were some ducks in the Dump Marsh complex this morning:
-Gadwall (3, at the east edge of the main marsh)
-Green-wing Teal (2 at same place, 23 on the SW marsh)
-Ring-necked Duck (male by itself in the main marsh, 3 females at the SW marsh)
-Northern Shovelers (4 on the SW corner of the main marsh)
-Blue-winged Teal (~1/2 dozen in front of old landfill west of Dump Marsh)
-American Wigeon (SE quadrant of Cutler Wetlands)
-Mottled Duck (a couple here and there)
I relocated the Black-headed Gull. There were no gulls at Cutler, but I found hundreds east of Cutler Wetlands in the construction area for the new development. On SW 93 Ct., just south of 223 St., there is a large open area with water on it. There were MANY laughing gulls and a few Lesser Black-backed, and the lone Black-headed. It was near the center of the maze, but behind the main flock. It's an adult in winter plumage (hurray! no messing with juveniles this time!!) A scope is a must. Just look for a Bonaparte's that looks bigger (close in size to the laughings) with a red bill with black tip. Overall, the bird is paler than the laughings and has a pure white head with a black ear spot. But, with so many gulls around, it can tough to locate if it's not off to one side.
