My wife took the day off to go to the beach, so I said cool, let's do it. Too bad the day was less than idea, with heavy clouds and the occasional squaw. As one rainstorm came by and cleared out the people, we waited it out under one of the life guard stands. As soon as the rain passed, I saw an adult, alternate-plumage Common Tern among the Royals (tern, not British aristocracy). Very nice find for my Bird-A-Day efforts. Wish I had taken the camera. Despite the name, this species can be hard to find in these parts. They are much more common along the gulf.
