While I was walking around Spanish River Park I heard and saw many juvenile birds (Great Crested Flycatcher, Fish Crow, Common Grackles, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Northern Mockingbird, European Starling, Brown Thrasher, Downy, Pileated & Red-bellied Woodpeckers.
Now, what I didn't expect to find was a House Finch parent and its chick. I apologize for the shots but could not do much better - the birds were straight up (at least 40ft high) and aiming a camera straight up and getting a crisp shot is quite difficult. So, nothing amazing here but definitely an identification shot of this species that I have seen a couple times before but had not idea that they bred this far south. I wasn't quite sure about the bird at first...I knew hundreds of species this bird was not right away. An expert Flickr friend of mine confirmed the species as House Finch.
I also saw a Great Horned Owl coughing up a pellet for the first time. It looked almost the size of a tennis ball. I caught a shot of it with its mouth wide open if you care to see...not to call me a fisherman! Nothing indicating migration seen that afternoon.
