What a day!!!

I met Rock and Toe at Lucky Hammock at 7am to look for Larry Manfredi's find
with expectations also seeing many migrating birds as well. It had been raining
before we arrived and rained off and on most of the morning. Nancy Freedman
showed up shortly after us and the terrific day of birding began; 17 warbler
species in all.

There were tons of migrating bird mainly in the Annex area. Rock quickly
spotted a Tennessee Warbler in the Willows on the South side of the road near
where Larry found the Alder. Everyone got good looks and I got a few OK photos.
It wasn't much later that Toe and Rock spotted the Traillii. We got brief looks
and some bad photos. We spent some time listening for the bird and only Rock
believed he heard the flycatcher, but with some question. We all wanted to
verify the bird as an Alder.

We continued to bird the area locating several other flycatchers. A Great
Crested and Least were also seen in the Annex during the early morning. We were
spotting new warblers every few minutes, then the rain came. Toe, Rock and I
headed for the cars and decided to go to Royal Palm and see if the weather was
better there and if the birding was as good at the Annex.

While at Royal Palm it rained lightly the entire time but we saw several
warbler species; a female Scarlet Tanager in the parking lot and an Eastern Wood
Pewee near the pond in the hammock. There were a lot of birds but they were all
hiding from the rain deep in the foliage.

We went back to the Annex to try and locate the Traillii we saw earlier and
had double the success we hoped for. There were two Traillii, in the same area
as before, but easily both were seen within the field of view of my binoculars.
Also this time I was able to hear the "Alder" call several times as did Toe and
I believe Rock. I even had a tape with an Alder call in my van to verify what I
was hearing. Thanks Larry for the great find. It help make for a great birding
day for all of us who made it down to the Annex for a look.
