Good afternoon Cindy,

If you mean Anne's Beach at Islamorada, then the birds were almost certainly Clapper Rails. King Rails are very rare in salt water. Furthermore, there are only two records of King Rails from the Keys, both at Dry Tortugas National Park during spring.
