I loaned my spotting scope for a year and so decided to use my 102mm f/5 Celestron telescope as a spotting scope. This is a correct-image scope (no flipping of the image as in other telescopes) and when placed on a spotting scope tripod worked well. On windy days for seawatches I would take it off the tripod and place it on a solid surface and wasn't bothered with a shaky scope. However, this is larger than most spotting scopes and really not practical for carrying around in the field. Also, you need to change eyepieces in order to change magnification. With a 4.7 mm eyepiece I could get 109X magnification.
