I arrived at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park this morning to find Iwe, Pia, Bert, and Sybrand de Bruin (the individuals who discovered the Black-faced Grassquit) searching for the bird along No Name Harbor Rd. and the bike path adjacent to it; after an @ 1.5 hour search, the female Black-faced Grassquit was relocated within a clump of shrubs (@ 3 feet off of the ground) at the location described by Angel & Mariel ( it was ~30 yards west of the white gate that is on the bike/pedestrian path which is across the road from where the Thick-billed Vireo has been at since March. ). The bird was rather secretive until it later decided to come out into the open within the canopy of a tree along the trail, which gave us all stunning views! The Black-face Grassquit appeared to be foraging in the tree and was described as foraging on the ground yesterday near that same location. Hopefully it will stick around for a while. John
