I've been watching a nest of 2 young red shoulder hawks which are about 6 weeks old (at least I've been watching them for six weeks and when I first saw them they appeared to be very young, inactive and weak.) The nest is in South Dade. Going South on the Turnpike, exit on Biscayne(SW 288th St), go South on Tallahassee (Racetrack Rd.) about 1 1/4 mile. Look for the Australian pines on the East side of the road. The nest is on the East side in the pines. One of the adults usually perches on a dead tree nearby the road. The nest is East of the telephone line in a pine about half way up the tree. It is well hidden and hard to see. It is near a telephone pole. Look for the white in the young. A scope would give you the best view. You may need binoculars to even spot.

A flock of about 20 cave swallows was milling around this morning under the turnpike as it passes over sw 248 st, just east of the intersection of sw 248 st and sw 112 ave. This is on the way to the dump marsh. If they decide to nest here it will certainly be easier to see them than clambering around at the old 216th st site.
: The red-shouldered hawks that were nesting at the dump site seem to have abandoned their nest after almost two months and apparently no young.
