Great pics :) We love the Least Bittern in flight, what a cool upper wing pattern huh?! As for your Tanager, we would love to see more shots of this bird, if you have any. The bird in question could very well be a Western Tanager! The white in the secondaries would be more indicative of this species. Your photo also shows what should be the greater coverts, if so this may be a wingbar, another feature of WETA plumage. With more photos we may be able to see other key field marks such as the back color or more of the wing. If you do have other shots, post them and maybe the identification can be confirmed.
