While we were there on Saturday, some surveyors came by and explained that this site is mitigation for the nearby development, so it won't get built on (hurray!). I'm not sure what it will look like when the mitigation is complete, so it may just be another lake, but for now, it seems to be fine for shorebirds. I stopped late on Sunday to show my wife (she works a couple blocks away) and saw only one Least Sandpiper, but there were 4 Dowitchers, including 2 in non-breeding plumage, so the birds seem to be changing daily. Will try to stop by again in a day or two.
