Paul (and others),

Forgive me if I'm preaching to the choir, but I just wanted to take this opportunity to encourage you to submit data like this to the journal North American Birds (NAB). John Boyd is the sub-regional editor and after compiling all the South Florida reports he forwards them to the appropriate regional editor. Most of the info you posted would be greatly appreciated, especially if you gave a little more background. The Florida Field Naturalist is another journal that compiles seasonal field observations and needs everybody's input. Maybe Bill Pranty or somebody else could give more info on that journal's submission procedures. These journals aren't just for "pro's" or "experts", they are for everybody interested in bird status and distribution and they can't function without input, the more the better. Submissions don't have to be technical or scientific, even anecdotal observations can be useful as long as they have some background or context. While the mere statement that "Nighthawk numbers are down significantly" might not carry a lot of weight on its own, if it is accompanied by some insight to your basis of comparison or if it is one of many reports about flagging nighthawk numbers then it is more valueable.

Maybe when John get's back in town he can post an address for submission to NAB. And remember, you don't have to be a member of FOS (Florida Ornithological Society) or ABA (American Birding Association) to submit data, but I'm sure they'd appreciate your support.

Good Birding,
