: I am in the market for my first scope and wanted to know if there were any places in Miami-Dade or Broward that carried a wide selection ? There are plenty on the internet but I would like to see/feel/test them before purchasing. Does anyone know of any local places that carry spotting scopes ? Does anyone have any recommendations for ones in the south Florida humid conditions ? Any advice will be appreciated.
I have a Bausch and Lomb Discover zoom scope, 20 to 60 x, with a 60 mm lens. It is my second scope - and I would be willing to sell it second hand - contact me offline if you are interested. I also have a lightweight tripod for it. It is a good entry level scope without spending a lot of money.
Begs the question - I have the Brunton scope as my primary - great optics, but price point is about $1,000. Is it 4 times as good as the B & L - it depends how many life birds you get with a scope. The 80 mm lens versus the 60 is key to getting a larger field of view, plus better low light conditions.
The Leica scope is also an excellent scope - you are looking at about $1,200 and up on that one. There's a few others as well that are name brands.
Best place I've seen to go head to head on scopes is a birding festival like the Brevard Birding Festival.
Enough said on the post - contact me directly for more information.
Mitchell
