I saw the article as well, and couldn't determine whether the reference was to anis now, or on the park's list from some point in the past. Matheson had a viable ani population for years, but I don't know of any seen there in the last couple of years. Fairchild had a small flock a year or two ago, but I didn't hear of any being seen when quite a few birders were there looking at the BB Hummingbird this past spring.
For years, I had a flock that would visit my yard regularly as they ranged along the canal that runs between 97th and 102nd Avenues, from Killian to SW 136th St. In the early 90s there could be a dozen or more, but over time it diminished. I saw 1 all of last year, and it had been a year before that that I had a couple on the day of the Kendall CBC. There have been none this year.
Sadly, I don't know of any evidence that they are staging a comeback anywhere in Dade County (or SoFla, for that matter).
