Hi Jim,
Your bird fits a very accurate description of a Razorbill, a bird typically very rare in Florida. This winter, however, there have been unprecedented numbers of Razorbills all along Florida's coast, from Jacksonville to Key West, and up to Pensacola.
The invasion of Razorbills was noticed by birders in mid-December and has caused much excitement in the state. Look at the posts from December 2012 to get an idea of how large and exciting this movement is.
