Hi Jim, what you saw was most likely a razorbill. There have been flocks of them seen along the coast of Florida. They are a northern bird and there have been many theories of why so many have gone south this year. Look at some past postings for more detail. It is too bad we didn't see them when we were at Boyton beach in December. But we will be back south in February and hopefully they will still be there.
