Caroline Efstathion and Paul Bardunias from the Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences are studing africanized bee deterents and how to protect nests for large cavity nesting birds such as owls and macaws. 4 of the 5 artificial nest boxes I put up were immediately taken over by bees. It's a horrible problem. I have photos of almost fledged myna birds stung to death in a nest in my back yard.
