Like John and Russ, I dragged my butt out of bed early yesterday and started birding at 7:00am after only about 4 hours sleep. It's a good thing too, since the weather was ideal and the birds were extremely active. I was able to get 53 species - a new single day high for me at this location - and I know I left at least 4 or 5 on the table. Highlights included an Eastern Towhee, Orange-Crowned, Yellow-throated and B&W warblers, Great Horned Owl and YB Sapsucker. I'm providing a link below to a couple of pictures of a presumed Tennessee Warbler. It was in a mixed flock (with OCs) bathing in the wet area at the end of the boardwalk (I was clicking off species until a Kestrel swooped in and spoiled the party) and was differentiated from the OCs by the pale and more prominent supercillium as well as the white underside and short tail. The pics aren't great, but please have a look and let me know what you all think.
Although I do bird many other locations, I've been working on getting a comprehensive list together for this site. In the past 18 months or so, 135 species have been recorded at this location, which I think is quite impressive for a 66 acre site in an urban environment. So thanks to all who have shared their observations with me through ebird or personally in the past year. And a happy New Year to all!
