Most of the Orange-crowned Warblers that winter in South Florida seem to be the grayer "Taiga" race. This overall grayness leads to confusion, so a good idea is to always look at the undertail covert color. As Carlos points out, the light feathering at the wing bend is a good diagnostic field mark. Most field guides don't illustrate this but Dunn and Garret mention it in their warbler guide. Almost all of our wintering Orange-cowned's have this characteristic. They have a distinct loud, sharp chip note, different from the soft "tinkling" chip note of Tennessee Warblers.
