Jim Kushlan was gracious enough to offer to take me and Trey on his boat to do an offshore count for the Miami CBC. We joined Jim and his wife Kirsten at 6:30 and headed out with 15-20 kt E-NE winds. At first I thought we were going to miss out. We went out to 300 ft of water withouth any Razorbills to show for it, but upon returning to shallower water we got into our first flocks. We had several flocks flying south at distance, but eventually found one that landed and allowed us to get really close. In addition to the Razorbills, we had other goodiers, including Brown Booby, Parasitic Jaeger, lots of scoters, and best of all a Manx Shearwater that is probably a first for the count. We would have stayed out longer, but the the winds picked up with a passing squall and the conditions we really deteriorating for a small boat. Photos to follow.
