Today I spoke with persons at ENP Headquarters regarding Research Road closure. As Toe indicates, the new gate is a protection device installed by the Missile Site HM-69 management. The Missile Site HM-69 was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004. The logistics are unfortunate because the logical gate location is at the terminal E-W section of the road. However, management feels that this is too close to the site and makes it vulnerable to vandalism.
Comment cards are available in the park and visitors are urged to fill these out. I'm in the process of finding out how to do this online and will post here if there is relevant information.
