The following is from Wally George, who discovered the first Great Black-Hawk (an adult) on Virginia Key in 1972.

"They were later seen on a regular basis throughout the 70's from Virginia Key north to Dania Cut-off Canal in Broward. They did successfully breed as immature birds were seen with adults in the 70's. I don't know of any recent records in Broward and I believe that all of the recent Dade Co. reports have been of adult birds....They are surely escaped birds and are not naturally occurring."
