I am starting a new thread to discuss access to STA-1E, off of Southern Blvd west of West Palm Beach, because I don't want people to be either disappointed or arrested.
There is definitely public access to both of the STA-1E (SR-80) and STA-1W (SR-880) kiosk areas west of Flying Cow Road on Fridays through Mondays. And there is a hiking/biking trail that now connects the two (recently opened).
But it is my understanding that access to the other portions of both areas is strictly off-limits except STA-1E to organized trips coordinated through Audubon of the Everglades and STA-1W to specific open hunting periods.
I have been in contact with a representative of the South Florida Water Management District to confirm my understanding and will post his response here as soon as I hear back from him.
