:The Dave mentioned by Trey, the Dave from Naples with over 50 years experience birding, is probably Dave Thurston, an excellent birder. Dave does have some magic going on-I first met him at Eagle Lakes at the beginning of the fall/winter birding season 2004 (I had been reading his posts to FLORIDABIRDS-L for years) and after my friend John Winters and I talked with him, John and I had the first sighting of the season of Eurasian Wigeon at Eagle Lakes. The next time Dave popped up was this year-I was at Corkscrew Swamp and met him on the boardwalk where he had his binoculars up looking at a bird which turned out to be a male Prothonotary Warbler. They had come into the Swamp the day before. Dave is also the guy who discovered the Broad-winged Hawk at Greenway/Fritchey which I have subsequently seen 7 times all over East Naples (5 different locations). He also had reported earlier on CR 858 a Brown Crested Flycatcher. Darn good birder, Trey, he's the one to have with you on some of these tougher ids.
:
: I arrived at A D Barnes at 7:30am and wanted to look for the Cooper's hawk and saw nothing in the pine area in the NE corner of the park.
:
: I then went into the hammock by the water fall and saw the usual B&W warblers, Prairie warblers, Worm Eating warblers and Red Starts. When I reached the wooden walkway I ran into a couple of other birders and saw several Ovenbirds and Blue headed Vireos. We heard a Tufted Titmouse and a Spot breasted Oriole. One of the other birders has been birding for 50 years, Dave from Naples. He had a print out from this bird board and was looking for the Swainson's warbler and the flycatchers seen over the weekend.
:
: The other birder had to go to work, but Dave and I continued the search. It wasn't long before we spotted the flycatchers. Both were just south and west of the water fountain along the trail. I'm glad I was with Dave because he was able to help me with the ID of the La Sagra's Flycatcher and the Acadian Flycatcher.
:
: I got a photo of the Acadian, but not the La Sagra's.
:
: After that things slowed down for a while so I suggested going over to the Homeless Hammock. We saw the Yellow billed Cuckoo and more B&W and Prairies then I had to go to work. I hope Dave got to see the Swainson's warbler.
:
: A good morning for me;
:
: Black and White Warbler
: Common Yellow Throat
: Prairie Warble
: Black throated Blue Warbler
: Worm eating warbler
: Ovenbird
: Blue Headed Vireo
: La Sagra's Flycatcher
: Acadian Flycatcher
: Yellow Billed Cuckoo
