I birded Arch Creek and Enchanted Forest Parks between 4:00 & 5:30 pm today observing a nice assortment of migrants in both parks. The best bird was a MacGillivray's Warbler observed in a thick mixed vegetated site with undergrowth of biden, sedges, and vines. The bird appeared to be a female with a pale gray head, olive back with darker olive wings, grayish-yellow breast fading to yellowish-olive underneath. The bold broken eye ring (crescent-shaped)was very prominent. The bird responded to "pishing" immediately by flying up from the undergrowth to mid-way up into a Hamelia (scarlet) bush (one of three on-site) that were growing within the mixed undergrowth. The warbler remained visible for several minutes before hoping down to the ground and then vanished into the vegetation. The bird called several times with a sharp chik. There were also present Common Yellowthroat Warblers and Ovenbirds. The location of the observation was in a weedy patch site located on the west side of the horse stable in Enchanted Forest Park (look for the dumpster). There is parking available near the picnic shelter and playground.
