Abby,
On Saturday 4/2, the day before the TAS trip, I spotted one Black-whiskered Vireo at Barnes on the Ficus tree adjacent to the boardwalk entrance (the one with the steps) in the Nature Trail, feeding and associating with a flock of warblers/vireos. That day, Toe and I also saw the Carolina Chickadee and thought we were the first ones to spot it. Only when we called Paul Bithorn with the exciting news did we learn he had seen it earlier in the morning along with Alex (who spotted the bird in the first place) and others. Anyway, if they saw only one B-W Vireo on the trip, it may well have been the same one I saw the previous day. On Sunday 4/3, Toe and I headed over to Key Largo Hammock State Park (with backcountry permit) and also to the Botanical Site and our experience was the same as yours: no B-W Vireos or Mangrove Cuckoos calling, only Northern Cardinals, G-C Flycatchers, and W-E Vireos. It's pretty early in the season so be patient.
Cheers and Good Birding,
RJ
P.S. You didn't see the chickadee at Barnes?
