To update Green Cay wetlands again after last week's excellent showings on Saturday and Monday, the migration is still representing very well as of Saturday this weekend...lots of a large variety of warblers and others were present even at a non-optimal early afternoon visit.
Spotted saturday between 1pm and 3pm just west of the chickee hut in an opening on the north side were:
American redstart
Yellow-throated warbler
Worm-eating warbler
Prothonotary warbler
Northern parula
Red-eyed vireo
Prairie warbler
Blue-grey gnatcatcher
Brown thrasher
Farther around to the west side cypress tree canopy were more prairie warblers mixed in with black-and-white warblers and northern parulas.
One bird I spotted but could not manage a photograph of was a mystery bird...it looked like a larger warbler type body, with a more orange to pink feet and beak, it had a clear white eyering, but the head and throat were blueish while the back and wings were unmarked and dullish green to olive. It had a pale yellowish belly. It was hopping around on the ground through the cypress tree stand area, and moving too fast and behind too many branches for me to get a shot off. I've dug through all the guides, and can only come up with the possibility of Connecticut warbler...which is also one I suspected I saw last year at Green Cay as well. Would love if anyone who visits Green Cay to confirm.
