Sounds like a male American Redstart! Your description not only identifies the species but also helps us identify the sex of the bird. Although some redstarts winter in South Florida, you are more likely to see one during spring and fall migration. Starting in late June, neotropical migrants such as redstarts commence the long trip to their wintering grounds, making stops along the way to refuel and rest before the next flight. In the following weeks and months be sure to keep an eye out for any other migrants that may pay a visit to your neighborhood.
