Hi Vince,

Very nice picture. Yes, I did see a few Long-eared Owls last year, as well as a Northern Saw-whet... I believe it was February when I went. Given the apparent popularity of the place for owling, I would not be surprised that the Long-eared Owls in particular are being disturbed. But it's hard for me to guess whether it's disturbance or some other phenomenon causing the owls to winter/migrate elsewhere this year.

: Look familiar? For some unexplained reason, the Long-eared Owls have not been as plentiful at Killdeer Plains this winter. Perhaps too many birders going to see them have placed a lot of stress on them? Did you see any when you were there?
