Hey Abby:
When I used to live in northeast Ohio I used to bird Killdeer Plains WMA a lot. Go here to see a photo of a Northern Saw-whet Owl I took at Killdeer Plains WMA, Wyandot Co, Ohio, back in 1996 or so.

Look familiar? For some unexplained reason, the Long-eared Owls have not been as plentiful at Killdeer Plains this winter. Perhaps too many birders going to see them have placed a lot of stress on them? Did you see any when you were there?
Cheers.

: Friday Aireo and I went to the greenway park at the Ft Lauderdale airport for the anis. We found the Groove-billed and both Smooth-billed Anis inside the park near the end of the path, perched in a tree in the middle of a bunch of palms. We watched them until they flew across the road and into the neighborhood.

: Saturday, after the TAS trip to Corkscrew and Marco Island, we stayed at Greenway and Fritchey roads to look for the Great Horned Owls. We found them on Fritchey road, both fledgings perched on a bare tree, one parent on a nearbly cypress and the other across the street in a pine. Thus making it a 3-owl day... quite exciting for us, topped only by our 4-owl day last winter at Killdeer Plains in Ohio.
