Over the last week, several of us have had 20+ shorebirds out in the surrounding areas south of Belle Glade. Uncommon sightings have included Sanderling, Ruddy Turnstone, Wilson's Phalarope, American Avocet, etc. plus all of the other expected shorebirds mentioned by Toe. At the King Ranch, we have found Burrowing Owls, King Rail, Purple Swamphen and more Glossy Ibis than I have ever seen in one area. Throw in both whistling-ducks, four species of terns, four species of swallows, Orchard Orioles, Eastern Kingbirds, Great White Heron, Barn Owls and others and it's been great birding in the somewhat oppressive heat of palm Beach County. At STA-5 on Friday, helping Margaret England do some BBA quads, we counted 34 American White Pelicans (all juries) plus Pectoral and Stilt Sandpipers among others.
