Pete, you post an interesting question. One which I've often pondered. How far south does the breeding range of Chimney Swifts extend? They are regular summer residents at several sites along Biscayne Bay down to Black Point and beyond. I first noticed this in the late 90s nearby the mangrove fringe along the edge of Biscayne Bay at a site which I visited regularly adjacent to an EEL pine rockland (probably not more than 20 miles from Ocean Reef across the Bay). I did an education program there 10 summers, and never did I fail to see noisy pairs or small groups patrolling the area. I always suspected there was a nest nearby.
