As Mr. Pranty notes, the bird is undoubtedly a pileated woodpecker. Here is a picture of one in residence at Loxahatchee. They are also present in Parkland area in Northwestern Broward County.

Impressive, eh? Makes you long for an Ivory Billed woodpecker.
