This past weekend at Green Cay, a pair of yellow-throated warblers were in the west-side tree canopy, feeding on caterpillars...got some good photo opportunities with the pair. Nice to see warblers there - haven't really encountered many during this summer. Also, chimney swifts have been all around the skies over the park, swooping for bugs...quite a few of them. I also spotted an American redstart, but didn't get a photo of it...haven't seen those since winter.
Least bitterns continue in big numbers - I've spotted near a dozen at Green Cay, and another 3-4 at Wakodahatchee. There is currently one pair with an active nest - sitting on the eggs currently...another two nests have hatched and the chicks grown - one family group has 4 grown chicks, and the other has 2...plus the adults which are sticking around. Don't think I've seen quite that many in previous years!
Photo of the yellow-throated warbler attached.
