Need help with Duck ID

Please help. I see two ducks at a freshwater lake/pond. They appear to either be a Lesser Scaup or Ring Necked Duck. However, some of the markings are throwing me off. They have white bills, with a black ring around, near the tip. The also appear to have red eyes. They are mostly black, with a little white patch showing on the rump. Anyone know what this is? This lake is also frequented by 5-9 Anhingas, Canada Geese, Mallards, Green Heron and various Gulls.
