I was in the Shark Valley part of the Everglades yesterday, and saw a beautiful blue and white bird from the viewing tower. It looked like a larger version of a blue jay, but then it dove into the water after a fish or insect. Does anyone know what it might have been? It had a call kind of like a duck quacking, but more rapid and of course higher-pitched.
The wildlife was very abundant in the 'Glades yesterday -- it's a great time to visit. I saw two immature roseate spoonbills and at least half a dozen wood storks.
