While many environmenetally conscious people welcome our south Florida deluge, in fact asking for more, I've seen ALL the Black-necked Stilt nests at Cutler Wetlands washed out in a few hours, feeding areas for waders become too deep to be used, and even nests in trees destroyed. If you spend time birding here in south Florida you will see there is an inverse relation between the amount of water and the number of birds. 2007 was a dry spring, and Cutler Wetlands had 1,242 individual birds on the morning of the NAMC, May 12. Today it might not have even one. Rain is evil!
