Thanks for the response but no, I have seen Limpkin there (although more at Loxahatchee) and this was definitely not a Limpkin. The bill was not long enough and was straight and black and the color was much too light (a washed out brown/grey with white). I'm almost positive it was a night heron or bittern by the way it sat, flew and stretched it's neck out to preen but it was lighter than the juveniles that were in my bird book and that I saw looking on-line. Could it be some intermediate phase between the darker juvenile and the adult white with dark?

: Can we presume you know the limpkin? There are several limpkins now in residence at Wakodahatchee. Here is a picture of an adult.

: Not sure that bird fits all the details. But if you saw a limpkin you would know by the call what it was...as erie a call as you will ever hear.
