Corkscrew swamp on Monday featured a red-tailed hawk that delighted visitors by a long pose (about15 minutes) at ten feet distance from the boardwalk. The bird was quite comfortable, the people quite polite, and the little children whispered. Can't say which aspect pleased me the most but the combination ranked high up on my list of magic moments.

Titmouses (titmices?) were calling, and a very large group of blue-gray gnatcatchers were also prominent. Barred owls called but were not heard.
